Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into God's presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God! It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

VERIZON CELL TOWER IN OUR CHURCH STEEPLE. The cell tower in our church steeple is now in operation. A Life Safety test was conducted on November 4, 2008, and the project is now virtually complete. Testing the automatic load transfer to the emergency generator is scheduled for November 12, 2008. Once that is accomplished and witnessed by the City Building and Fire Inspectors, the final inspections will be completed. Verizon is paying us $2,000 per month for using our facility. In spite of this extra help since April, Local Budget is in the RED by $30,631.00 as of the end of October.

GUTTER REPLACEMENT. Some folks have noticed the gutter down on the East side of the church sanctuary. That happened on September 14 as a result of the high winds that day. A contract has been signed for replacement of that gutter and re-sloping another gutter at a cost of $866.00. There were lots of gutters damaged, so the contractor has a considerable backlog, but it will happen. We are blessed that the overall damage from the storm was no worse than it is. If you can share an extra blessing with the Local Budget, you can share in the pride of maintaining your church.

Hello Church Family! My name is Monya Peck, a fellow WAC member and one of the worship leaders in the Praise Band. I am so excited to be asking your help with a special project. Several months ago I met a man Don and his son Austin. Noticing immediately that the boy was disabled, I listened while Don explained to me that Austin has been diagnosed with the extremely rare Pollitt Syndrome.

Austin is 15 years old, but resembles a boy of 8. He is legally blind in one eye and close to blind in the other. He wears hearing aids. Socially, he conducts himself as 5 year-old would. He has delayed mental and physical retardation. Despite all this, he is one of the warmest children I’ve met.

After several years of attempting to find someone else with Pollitt Syndrome, (it is sooo very rare) Austin’s parents finally located James Henlan, a boy less fortunate than Austin who resides in a public health facility in England. At 22 years, he is older than Austin but the similarities are striking.

Austin’s parents have tried many ways to finance a trip to England for Austin and James to meet. In no way do they have the funds; since they are heavily in debt from Austin’s various treatments over the years. As I listened to their story, I couldn’t help thinking that practically everyone I know has been blessed beyond need. I’d like your help in trying to raise $5000 to send Austin and his parents to England.

You may hear more about this project in the coming weeks as I plan to follow up this flyer with a letter to all church members. I will also be organizing various fund-raising efforts. If you feel compelled to contribute, there are several ways to do it. I have set up a custodial account at Chase bank in Austin’s name. You may directly deposit, mail into the bank, or hand Laura Hanley a check made out to Austin Hopkins with account number 2910587373 in the memo line.

If you have more questions about Austin, please email me at monyapeck@hotmail.com. If you want to know more about James Henlan, type “Pollitt, Who Will Love This Boy” in the Yahoo (not Google or other) search bar. There was a local article written about him in Birmingham, UK.

I can’t say thank you enough in advance. Monya Peck

Coming this week:
This evening offers you two very special events: Join world renowned singer, Jennifer LaMountain, for a vespers service at 6:00pm in the sanctuary. The concert will feature songs from her newest album, “Confessions: Hymns and Songs of Faith.” Come join Jennifer for an evening of inspirational music and testimony. To find out more about Jennifer’s ministry visit www.jenniferlamountain.com.
Then head over to our WAA campus for….
WAA Classroom Dedication. This event will start immediately following the Jennifer LaMountain concert, approximately 7:15pm. You will begin at the entrance to the school, praying, singing and asking for God’s blessing over each room within. This evening has been designed with you in mind, to offer you the richness of God's blessings as we close His Sabbath day.

BE CAREFUL! You may have noticed some construction going on around the front and side of the church. Please watch your step and steer clear of the caution tape. In order to install a cell tower up in our steeple, workmen need to dig down below our foundation, thus the deep trenches. Please do take care to avoid these areas.

Volunteer at Mohaven! Take a break from the city and spend a few hours tending to God's Garden of Eden right here in Ohio -- at Mohaven! Tree branches need trimming, and dry stone planters and edging need to be laid. Interior drywall, paint, and flooring, etc. need to be applied as well. This is a great Sunday afternoon getaway for an individual, a family, or more. Afterwards, maybe you can take a dip in the pool, or ride a horse. Come share in the blessing! Just call Lucy at (740) 599-6111 to make arrangements.

When driving in to work today, I couldn’t help but notice the nicely manicured roses out by the road in front of our church. That’s thanks to James Steen. The boxwoods have been nicely trimmed, the rose bushes pruned and the ivy tamed thanks to Tom & Bonnie Essman and Mary Fran Sciulli (keeping that ivy tamed is no easy task). Bill and Dee Wagner and Stephenie Henriquez have also been spotted giving love and attention to our many flower beds. And of course there is B.L. Knecht who keeps our automated watering system in working order. Thank you to these folks and others who lend a hand.

And how about the memory garden…great job Carmie & Raffy Ouzounian! A bed that is easily overlooked is the one that runs along Andover St. It’s weeded, trimmed and edged all thanks to Dave & Melinda Monos. Coming this week:
This is exciting! Our Youth Sabbath School class has been working on a drama set to the song Everything by Lighthouse that they will share with the church during 1st service this Sabbath. I know, I know, that’s Heritage Sabbath but don’t worry, if you don’t get to see it on the 26th, the group has agreed to do a vespers program of this production at a later date. It’s a timeless message set to a modern song and I’m sure you won’t want to miss it!

Our special guest speaker for our Heritage Sabbath 2nd service is Ohio Conference president, Raj Attiken. We’ve dedicated this year’s Heritage Sabbath to our Ohio Conference personnel and the warm relationship that our church has enjoyed with them throughout the years. Please be sure to stay after the 2nd service for a Fellowship Luncheon in their honor. Please bring your choice of the following to share: hors d’ oeuvres, small sandwiches, fruits, vegys, crackers & cheese or cookies.

Coming in the weeks ahead:
Mabel Binau, a long time member of our church, passed away Wednesday. She and her husband Bob were two of the sweetest, gentlest people who were wonderful friends to many of our members. Services conducted at Rutherford-Corbin, 2383 N. High Street in Worthington. Viewing is Sunday afternoon 8/27, 2-4 PM, and one hour before the funeral on Monday (10:30-11:30 AM). The funeral service is 11:30 AM on Monday, 8/28.

Meals for the Duncans – Thank you to everyone who has helped provide so many delicious meals. This has been a real blessing to the Duncans. If you would like to be added to the meal preparation schedule, please call Nerissa Kennedy at 210-0500.

Talents and Tiaras. The Ohio Women’s Retreat, featuring guest speaker Kay Rizzo is planned for September 19-21. Pick up a brochure in the literature rack in the narthex or check out the details on line at ohioadventist.org.

A Shower-of-cards for a young boy injured at Camp Mohaven. Nikolas Southard, a 9 year old boy, dear friend and life long neighbor of the Sciulli family was critically injured in a bike accident at Camp Mohaven on Monday, July 7th. Some of the details are as follows: While riding his bike on the trails at Camp Mohaven, Nikolas put the brakes on hard and was flipped, landing with the handle bar doing considerable damage to his internal organs. He was life-flighted to Children's Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. His condition continues to improve everyday. He has received visits from camp friends, counselors and Pastor Bob, but we thought it might be fun for him to receive an outpouring of care from members of our Church. We thought the two best ways to do this would be sending him get-well cards and lifting him up in your prayers. If you would like to send him something in the mail, please send it to his home address, 1346 Hickory Ridge Lane, Columbus, OH 43235. Such a simple deed, such a tremendous impact! We’ll keep you updated on Nickolas’ recovery.

Thank you to Nancy Detrick who provides all the index cards that you can find in your pew back racks. She’s a great shopper who finds them on sale at Walgreens for $1/3 pack.

I also want to say how much Ben and I appreciated your generous gifts, they will be well used and enjoyed throughout our lives together. I want to give special thanks to Mercedes McPherson who planned the event. Thanks again for your company and generosity. Elizabeth Gibbs and Ben Brewer.
